Origin
Simbi Washing Station was founded in 2013 by Abdul Rudahungwa. Abdul was born into a family that has been responsible for Rwanda's coffee revival, and he himself studied agricultural sciences at university. Inspired by his family, he established his own washing station with the goal of producing high quality coffee. He works with local small-scale producers (about 250 people, 60% of whom are women) to produce high quality coffee. At this station, strict quality standards are set and controlled at each step of the process, such as fermentation, sorting, and drying, in order to maximize the quality of the harvested cherries. As a result, the coffee has won awards at the Cup of Excellence and is highly regarded around the world.
